The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) announced that starting next Monday (23rd), it will seek public opinion on plans to significantly lift tariffs on Chinese polysilicon, silicon wafers, and tungsten products. The consultation period will end on October 22.

The abovementioned tariffs will be included in the final decision of the "Section 301" tariffs announced by the US government last week, which targets Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, steel, chips, and solar panels.

After receiving public feedback, many of these tariffs will be implemented starting September 27, including a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. The Office of the USTR stated that tariffs will be raised on five product categories, including a 50% tariff on polysilicon used in solar cells and silicon wafers used in chips, as well as a 25% tariff on three types of processed tungsten products.
