South Korean gaming company Kangwon Land announced on the Korean Stock Exchange on Thursday (5th) that it has obtained permission from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea to carry out casino operations and changes in the regulations for foreigners-only casinos.

It is learnt that the changes include increasing the size of the casino from approximately 14,500 square metres to 20,200 square metres. The number of slot machines will be increased from 1,360 to 1,610. The number of gaming tables will be increased from 200 to 250. The maximum betting amount in the foreigners-only area would be hiked from KRW300,000 won to KRW300 million. Access to the foreigners-only area will be opened to South Koreans with foreign permanent resident status.

As quoted by Allin Media, Kangwon Land said that as the current casino area is still not large enough to accommodate more slot machines and gaming tables, the company will start the casino area expansion project first, and therefore the above changes will take effect in 2025 and thereafter. As for the foreigners-only area, other laws will have to be amended before the changes can be applied.
