HKELECTRIC-SS (02638.HK) announced that it has put in force a series of contingency measures including the deployment of additional manpower to handle possible power-related events in anticipation of the approaching typhoon. As Hong Kong braces for Typhoon Yagi, HKELECTRIC-SS stated that drawing on past experiences in combating extreme weather events and rainstorms, the company has updated its contingency plans and formulated more detailed guidelines. They are now in effect to cover and protect the power generation, transmission and distribution, and emergency customers support services, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for over 590,000 customers on Hong Kong and Lamma islands against any possible attack by Yagi. Measures include bringing additional generating units in service to respond promptly to any sudden changes in power demand. Once the Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Strong Wind Signal No. 3, additional manpower will be arranged at Lamma Power Station to maintain normal operations and handle emergency maintenance in view of possible suspension of sea transport.
