Severe Tropical Storm Yagi has intensified into a typhoon. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will consider issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3, between 6 pm and 9 pm tonight, indicating that Yagi tracked westwards steadily and intensified in the past few hours. According to the present forecast, local winds will strengthen gradually tonight.

As Yagi continues to edge closer to the western part of the south China coast, winds in the vicinity of Pearl River Estuary may strengthen further in the latter part of tomorrow.

Depending on the movement and change of intensity of Yagi, the HKO will assess the need to issue higher tropical cyclone warning signal between tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night.
