The Hong Kong bourse opened lower this morning, mimicking the external markets, with the HSI opening 50 pts or 0.3% lower at 17,260; the HSCEI opening 26 pts or 0.4% lower at 6,115; and the HSTECH opening 29 pts or 0.8% lower at 3,461.

For techs, BABA-SW (09988.HK) added 0.4% at $74.5. TENCENT (00700.HK) shed 0.8% at $360.2. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) slid 2.4% at $110.6. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK), NTES-S (09999.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) and BILIBILI -W (09626.HK) dipped 0.6%- 1%. JD-SW (09618.HK) sank 0.1%. MEITU (01357.HK), expecting an upsurge of at least 80% in adjusted net profit in 1H24, opened 7.5% higher at $2.43.

SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK) reported a nearly 4% hike in adjusted property EBITDA in the second quarter, which fell short of expectations. The stock opened 1.2% lower at $15.32.

Following Tesla and General Motors, Ford Motor also saw its share price decline after announcing its results. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK), NIO-SW (09866.HK) and XPENG-W (09868.HK) dived 1.2%-2%. BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) gained 0.1% at $233.2.
