According to media reports, some stations on the Kwun Tong Line of the MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK) will be closed for a full day for equipment renewal, including Prince Edward, Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei stations. MTR said that it will give advance notice of any service adjustments.

It is learnt that some sections of the tunnels of the Kwun Tong Line have relatively high ceilings, and over the years, they have only relied on short periods of time during the closing hours to carry out repairs and maintenance. MTR considered that there is a need to allow more time for the updating of hardware, such as the tunnel supports, so as to enhance railway safety.

MTR is considering arranging feeder buses during the suspension of train service at some stations, and passengers can also switch to the Tsuen Wan Line or the Tuen Mun Line.

It has been reported that MTR will hold a press conference today (8 May) at the earliest to explain the details.
