According to preliminary data released by the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong's real GDP growth extended to 3.8% YoY in 3Q25 from 3.1% YoY in 2Q25, beating the market expectation of 3% and Nomura's more optimistic forecast of 3.2%, the broker said in its research report. Hong Kong's GDP growth also accelerated from 0.4% QoQ in 2Q25 to 0.7% in 3Q25 after seasonal adjustments. The trend from 2Q25 continued, with personal consumption expenditure remaining the main driver of growth in 3Q25. In addition, recent stock market buoyancy boosted local sentiment and stimulated increased consumer spending. Despite being one of the highest forecasting institutions in the market, Nomura decided to further raise its forecast for Hong Kong's 2025 GDP growth from 3% to 3.3% to reflect the latest performance data.
