HSBC, Stanchart, BOCHK Support 3rd Corporate Social Bond Issued by HKMC

The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited (HKMC) recently successfully issued its third social bonds of $23.8 billion equivalent in total, making it the largest ever social bond issuance in the Asia Pacific region.

A 2-year $7 billion bonds, 3-year US$850 million bonds, 5-year $8 billion bonds and 7-year RMB2 billion bonds were issued in total, with coupon rates of 3.55%/ 4.125%/ 3.45%/ 2.6% each.

The Hong Kong government and other public institutions have issued a number of bonds this year, and this transaction will help to further promote the development of Hong Kong's bond market and strengthen Hong Kong's position as the leading bond issuance center in Asia, the managing director and Head of Greater China of debt capital markets at HSBC Investment Bank, said.

The issuance was strongly welcomed by professional and institutional investors, including sovereign-wealth funds, fund managers and private banks, with orders totaling more than $55 billion equivalent at its peak, David Yim, Head of Capital Markets, Greater China & North Asia at Stanchart, said.

This is the largest HKD institutional bond and the largest ever social bond in Asia, which was enthusiastically subscribed by a large number of local and overseas institutional investors, the deputy general manager of Global Corporate Finance Department of BOC HONG KONG (02388.HK), said. This is believed to reflect Hong Kong's advantages as an international green and sustainable bond issuance center.
