Kathleen Quirk, CEO of Freeport (FCX.US), the world's largest copper miner, stated in an interview with Reuters that as the company is currently focused on creating value from its existing assets, he sees no need for aggressive acquisitions at high prices. Freeport accounts for 9% of global copper production.

Freeport is raising production by filtering copper from old waste rock at its US mines. Its annual output is expected to reach 800 million pounds (around 363,000 metric tons) as soon as 2027.
