The EU plans to vote on October 4 on whether to impose additional tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) made in China, Bloomberg, citing people with the knowledge of the matter, reported, whereas member states have received a draft of the proposed measures. Previously, it had been rumored that even if the draft is passed, negotiations between the EU and China could continue.

Unless 15 member states representing 65% of the EU population oppose the plan, the EU will impose additional tariffs of up to about 35% on Chinese-made EVs for five years from November. Together with the existing 10% tariff, it could ultimately reach 45%. Member states such as Germany and Spain warned against imposing additional tariffs on China, fearing that it could lead to a trade war.
