Taobao Hong Kong announced that it will pour RMB1 billion to enhance the local consumer experience. Starting in October, it will launch a limited-time free shipping to Hong Kong service for three months, spanning the two major promotional events – “Double 11” and “Double 12”. Chen Zijian, head of Taobao Tmall Hong Kong and Macau Business Department, said the promotion was primed to coincide with the traditional peak consumption season in the fourth quarter, in the hope that more consumers would benefit.

Taobao Hong Kong had launched the Taobao PLUS service in November last year, which allows users to enjoy free shipping to Hong Kong when they purchase designated products worth at least $99. Chen said that after this service upgrade, the number of products covered by the PLUS service will increase from over 10 million to over more than 1 billion units, covering all small and light units such as apparel accessories, 3C digital, home storage, sports and entertainment, and cosmetics and skin care.

To lower the threshold for Hong Kong consumers to shop online across the border, Taobao Hong Kong also announced two long-term after-sales service upgrades, including the launch of cross-border return services within October, the expansion of the coverage of goods for return services, and the strengthening of the layout of official self-pickup points.

In addition, Taobao's official logistics will upgrade its services, and the number of Cainiao self-pickup points and lockers across Hong Kong will increase to 800. Zhao Yiliang, general manager of Hong Kong station of Cainiao’s overseas shopping export logistics department, expected the number of self-pickup points and lockers to trump 1,000 by the end of 2024. The group also plans to hire for and invest in an expanded fleet.
