In 1H24, Ray-Ban and Meta's second-generation AI smart glasses sales surpassed 1 million units, showing that AI smart glasses are gradually becoming the key to accessing the edge of the AI ecosystem, HSBC Global Research released a research report as saying. Although augmented reality (AR) technology has not yet been widely used, AI assistants and AI agents may soon appear in large quantities, with more and more sound and visual interaction between humans and smart devices. The inflection point may be around the corner, in the broker’s view.

XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK), AAC TECH (02018.HK) and LUXSHARE PRECISION (002475.SZ) were beneficiaries, all of which were rated Buy. With AI function, affordable price and stylish lightweight design, HSBC Global Research viewed that AI smart glasses will become an emerging and growing product category, and its penetration rate can be lifted in the coming years.

Optimistic about Xiaomi’s home-grown AI smart glasses, the broker believed it can create synergies with Xiaomi's smartphones and IoT devices. HSBC Global Research was also optimistic on Sunny and AAC, which have leading expertise in wearable device optics, microphones and speakers, respectively, and they will ride on the higher-than-expected demand for smart eyewear products.
