China wants to see the Donald Trump administration take a series of measures before agreeing to trade negotiations, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the Chinese government's thinking.

According to the sources, this includes controlling disparaging remarks by cabinet members to show more respect. Other conditions include hoping for more consistency in the US' own stance and a willingness to address China's concerns over US sanctions and the Taiwan issue.

Beijing also hopes that the US will appoint a point person for the talks who has the president's support and can help prepare an agreement for Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to sign when they meet, the sources said.

The report also quoted the sources as indicating that the most important prerequisite for any negotiations is that Chinese officials need to know such engagement will be conducted with mutual respect.
