Since the launch of the Hong Kong “taxi payment collection QR code” in October 2023, it has been adopted by over 10,000 taxi drivers in Hong Kong, and features such as zero handling fee, immediate receipt of payment and real-time foreign exchange rate settlement were well received by the industry, according to WeChat Pay.

As of January 2025, the number of monthly offline transactions in WeChat Pay's mobile payment for Hong Kong's taxi industry surged by nearly 4x YoY, while the number of active merchants per month spiked by more than 4x.
