U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that trade negotiations are actively underway, with approximately 70 countries in contact with the White House, U.S. media reported. He slammed China’s tariff hikes as futile, asserting that China should negotiate rather than retaliate.

Bessent noted that Washington has not ruled out any policy options to address China, including the possibility of delisting Chinese companies from U.S. stock exchanges, though the final decision rests with President Donald Trump.

If China attempts to devalue the RMB, it would constitute an economic attack on other nations, effectively imposing tariffs on the rest of the world, Bessent warned.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian had stated yesterday that the legitimate development rights of the Chinese people cannot be denied, and China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests must not be violated.

He emphasized that China will continue to take resolute and forceful measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
