An earthquake measuring 5.8-magnitude rocked Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan at 9:53 AM on Wednesday (9th). According to Taiwanese media, noticeable tremors were felt in Hsinchu, Taichung, and Taipei, causing the railway system to temporarily operate at reduced speeds; it has since fully resumed normal operations.

The earthquake reportedly caused no damage to the Hsinchu Science Park, with major facilities, including those of TSMC (TSM.US)      and UMC, continuing to operate normally.
