The HSI opened down 632 points or 3.1% at 19,494 this morning. It once plunged 867 points to a bottom of 19,260 in early trading, but then managed to narrow its losses to 108 points, briefly climbing back above the 20,000 mark to a peak of 20,019. It last printed at 19,890, down 237 points or about 1.2%.

The HSCEI was last at 7,395, down 34 points or 0.5%. The HSTECH rebounded in the morning session after experiencing an initial fall of nearly 6%. It last printed at 4,621, up about 1.1%.

SMIC (00981.HK)  -2.150 (-4.526%)    Short selling $421.50M; Ratio 6.764%   last surged 10.1% to $43.1, making it the best-performing blue-chip stock with a turnover of $5.539 billion. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  -0.100 (-0.231%)    Short selling $1.10B; Ratio 15.651%   last printed at $41.5, continuing to rise by 6.68%, on a turnover of $9.723 billion. CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  +0.050 (+0.575%)    Short selling $44.30M; Ratio 20.484%   last traded at $8.54, up 3.02%, on a turnover of $229 million. ANTA SPORTS (02020.HK)  +2.050 (+2.395%)    Short selling $441.52M; Ratio 41.455%   was stable with a mild increase of 0.1%.

On the downside, WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK)  -0.850 (-1.605%)    Short selling $41.32M; Ratio 15.787%   and PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  +0.070 (+1.270%)    Short selling $174.35M; Ratio 17.358%   were the worst performers among blue chips with a slump of over 5%.
