It once plunged 867 points to a bottom of 19,260 in early trading, but then managed to narrow its losses to 108 points, briefly climbing back above the 20,000 mark to a peak of 20,019. It last printed at 19,890, down 237 points or about 1.2%.

The HSCEI was last at 7,395, down 34 points or 0.5%. The HSTECH rebounded in the morning session after experiencing an initial fall of nearly 6%. It last printed at 4,621, up about 1.1%.

SMIC (00981.HK)  +0.600 (+1.322%)    Short selling $389.19M; Ratio 8.184%   last surged 10.1% to $43.1, making it the best-performing blue-chip stock with a turnover of $5.539 billion. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  +0.700 (+1.697%)    Short selling $564.34M; Ratio 7.135%   last printed at $41.5, continuing to rise by 6.68%, on a turnover of $9.723 billion. CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  -0.010 (-0.115%)    Short selling $57.37M; Ratio 15.823%   last traded at $8.54, up 3.02%, on a turnover of $229 million. ANTA SPORTS (02020.HK)  +2.500 (+2.860%)    Short selling $481.31M; Ratio 35.909%   was stable with a mild increase of 0.1%.

On the downside, WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK)  +0.850 (+1.663%)    Short selling $24.69M; Ratio 13.059%   and PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  +0.080 (+1.431%)    Short selling $108.70M; Ratio 12.279%   were the worst performers among blue chips with a slump of over 5%.
