A spokesman for the EU Executive Committee said that the EU regretted the US decision to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, foreign media reported.

The spokesman said it remains unknown as to any further tariff increases by the US on EU products, adding that the trade and investment relationship between the EU and the US was the most pivotal in the world and that both parties should seek to strengthen the relationship.

The spokesman said that market liberalization and respect for international trade rules are essential for strong and sustainable economic growth.

While the EU strongly believed that low tariffs contributed to economic growth and stability, it would respond to any trading partner who unfairly and indiscriminately imposed tariffs on EU goods.
