A CATHAY PAC AIR (00293.HK)  -0.020 (-0.192%)    Short selling $3.90M; Ratio 7.205%   flight from Kathmandu, Nepal, to Hong Kong reported suspected mass food poisoning for two straight days this week, with passengers feeling unwell having eaten prior to boarding the flight, as well as onboard meals.

In response to the incidents, a Cathay Pacific spokesman said the airline confirmed that suspected food poisoning occurred on flights “CX640” from Kathmandu to Hong Kong on January 7 and 8. At this stage of the investigation, the contaminated food is not believed to have come from Cathay Pacific.

If the investigation reveals that there are problems with Cathay Pacific's food handling procedures, the company will be open and transparent with the public and will take corrective action to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. In addition, Cathay Pacific reminded its crew and passengers to follow food safety guidelines.

The spokesman added that the airline will continue to keep close tab with the authorities, cooperate with the investigation and provide necessary assistance to the affected passengers.
