The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has announced a preliminary ruling that smartphones produced by Motorola Mobility under LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK)  +0.280 (+3.063%)    Short selling $54.67M; Ratio 13.742%   infringe on patents owned by Swedish mobile communications equipment manufacturer Ericsson.

The full ITC panel will make a final decision on Ericsson's allegations in April 2025. If the ruling is upheld, the US may ban the import of the involved smartphones.

Ericsson accused three Motorola phone series of infringing its wireless communication technology last year, which Lenovo previously denied, according to earlier media reports.
