The US government will initiate a trade investigation into Chinese chips in the coming days, which may lead to tariffs or other measures to restrict the import of old types of chips and related products, including medical equipment, automobiles, smartphones, and weapons, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

US government officials have been discussing for months whether to initiate the investigation under Section 301, and White House officials finally agreed this week to advance the investigation, which could help protect the US chip industry, according to the report.
