The US government is preparing to launch a trade investigation into older types of chips produced in China in light of concerns that reliance on these products may pose a national security threat, The New York Times, citing sources, reported.

This investigation could eventually lead to tariffs, import bans, or other measures on certain Chinese chips and related products, but the specific decisions will be made by the incoming Donald Trump administration, according to the report.
