China is facing a reduction in supplies of Iran's cheap oil, according to Reuters. The report quoted outside expectations as saying that Donald Trump, after taking office as US President, will once again impose “maximum pressure” on Iran and tighten sanctions on the Iranian oil industry, based on concerns about Iran's nuclear program.

Such measures may increase the cost of Iranian oil imports to China, putting pressure on refiners with tight gross margins, particularly independent refiners.

Vortexa Analytics estimated that China imported 1.4 million barrels of Iranian oil per day in 1Q24-3Q24.
