The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) fined GlobalFoundries (GFS.US)      , the world's third-largest foundry, US$500,000 for making 74 unauthorized deliveries of wafers worth US$17.1 million to SMIC (00981.HK)  +0.050 (+0.184%)    Short selling $247.20M; Ratio 14.058%   's SJ Semiconductor.

SMIC and SJ Semiconductor were added to the list of entities subject to trade restrictions in 2020. The U.S. alleged that SMIC has ties to the Chinese military, which SMIC denies.
