Chief Executive John Lee pointed out in the new Policy Address that over the past two years or so, median monthly household income has risen by about $2,800, up over 10%, while over 100,000 jobs have been added. He believed that the government's overall policy directions are on the right course.

Lee also emphasized that thanks to the concerted efforts of all concerned, Hong Kong's status as an international financial center (IFC) has restored the global third position, putting an end to the negative narratives of the city's future. Meanwhile, it ranked fifth in world competitiveness and rose seven places in talent competitiveness to stand among the world's top 10 once again.

In terms of investment environment, international trade, business legislation, and air-cargo throughput, Hong Kong retained the top spots in the global ranking. Lee noted that Hong Kong must remain confident and stand firm against any efforts to downplay its success story.
