The People's Intermediate Court of Huanggang City, Hubei Province, publicly announced today (10th) the first-trial verdict in the case of bribe acceptance by Fan Yifei, former member of the Party Committee and deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), according to a report from CCTV.

The court sentenced Fan to death for accepting bribes, with a two-year reprieve, deprived him of political rights for life, and confiscated all personal property. Upon expiration of the two-year reprieve period, the sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment without the possibility of reduction or parole.

The court also ordered the recovery of all illicit gains and their proceeds derived from bribery, which will be turned over to the state treasury.

The trial revealed that from 1993 to 2022, Fan took advantage of his positions and the convenience afforded by his authority and status to assist related units and individuals in matters including loan financing, business contracting, and job transfers. He illegally accepted assets totaling over RMB386 million directly or through others.
