Apple (AAPL.US)      asked suppliers to prepare parts for the production of 88-90 million new iPhones, an increase of at least 10% from last year's initial order estimate of about 80 million units, Nikkei Asia reported, citing sources.

The report cited some component suppliers as saying they had received orders for more than 90 million units, but they added that Apple usually orders more components first and then adjusts them based on actual sales.
