The Executive Council approved March this year the construction of Hung Shui Kiu Station on the Tuen Ma Line. MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK)  0.000 (0.000%)    Short selling $17.10M; Ratio 36.551%   revealed that the project is the first train station in Hong Kong to be built on a viaduct of an operating railway, and that preparatory work is now underway, with the construction of the main works expected to commence within this year. The station is planned to be officially opened in 2030, when it will be ready for use by the first batch of residents in the Hung Shui Kiu / Ha Tsuen New Development Area.

According to the MTR, several new railway projects, including the Hung Shui Kiu Station, involve construction on existing operating railway lines, which is a greater challenge. Therefore, it is necessary to utilise the 2 hours after the close of train service each night and before the opening of the next day (2 am - 4 am) each day, as well as construction information simulation technology. To minimise disruption to existing train services, the station body of Hung Shui Kiu Station will be constructed using prefabricated components and Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) as far as practicable.

Apart from Hung Shui Kiu Station, critical civil engineering works for Siu Ho Wan Station, Tuen Mun Southern Extension, Kwu Tung Station of the East Rail Line and Tung Chung Line Extension will be carried out this year. MTR expected the new railway projects to create more than 20,000 construction and related jobs during the construction phase.
