China Telecom Global, a subsidiary of CHINA TELECOM (00728.HK)  -0.040 (-0.673%)    Short selling $20.28M; Ratio 6.627%   , recently obtained a license from the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) of Hong Kong for direct mobile phone-to-satellite services. The Group announced that it officially launched the internationalized operation of the Tiantong satellite mobile system with Hong Kong as the first stop.

Other than traditional satellite phones, some smartphones from brands such as Huawei, XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  +0.700 (+1.697%)    Short selling $564.34M; Ratio 7.135%   , OPPO, HONOR and ZTE (00763.HK)  0.000 (0.000%)    Short selling $24.26M; Ratio 13.397%   will support the Tiantong satellite communication function in Hong Kong.

Yang Lingcai, General Manager of China Satellite Communications, expected that Hong Kong users will be able to enjoy the communications service with converged network protocols without changing their phone cards or numbers after the implementation of direct mobile phone-to-satellite services in Hong Kong.

In the future, Hong Kong will be used as a starting point to promote the overseas operation of Tiantong in Hong Kong & Macau, Southeast Asia, South Asia and other countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
