The person in charge of the Ministry of Public Security of Mainland China said at the press conference that, targeting key opinion leaders (KOLs) who have strong influence on the internet, the public security organs will work with the relevant departments to promote the standardized development of the industry in accordance with the law.

New measures include keeping an eye on rumor threads spiraling online, strictly cracking down KOLs who fabricate and disseminate false information, as well as cyber trolls who take the opportunity to create rumors to attract traffic and make profits.

At the same time, the authorities will promote the establishment of a blacklist system for illegal accounts, so as to squeeze out the room for rumor-mongering and spreading activities. Targeting KOLs, the government will launch law-prevention campaigns and educational reminders to educate and guide KOLs to abide by the law and resist rumors.
