HSBC HOLDINGS/ Barclays/ 5 Other Major UK Banks Pass Central Bank Stress Test

The Bank of England (BoE) released the latest results of its major bank capital stress test, aimed at assessing the resilience of the UK banking system under various hypothetical scenarios. The results show that all seven major UK banks successfully passed the test, including Barclays, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK), Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest, Santander's British arm and STANCHART (02888.HK). These seven banks collectively account for approx. 75% of the total lending to the UK economy. Under the extreme scenarios assumed in the test, all seven banks are expected to maintain capital levels above the regulatory minimum requirements, with none needing to strengthen their capital positions based on the test results.
