US Said to Announce Proposal to Ban CN Software, Hardware for Connected Cars Tdy at Earliest

The US Department of Commerce is expected to propose a ban on the use of Chinese software and hardware in connected and self-driving vehicles traveling on American roads today (23rd) due to national security concerns, Reuters quoted sources as saying.

The ban could be extended to other foreign competitors of the US, including Russia.

The proposed requirements would prohibit the import and sale of vehicles equipped with software or hardware for key communications or automated driving systems from China, sources added.

Of which, the proposed software ban will take effect in the 2027 model year and the hardware ban will be effective for January 2029 or the 2030 model year.
